I happened to save a lot of in progress shots of this piece, so I thought I’d share. There’re a few interesting things in here, and some custom brushes that you can use in Photoshop somewhere in here as well.

This is the earliest version I have. This much took about 30 minutes on a rather small canvas. I also had 3-4 aborted attempts, but I didn’t save them. I remember working small helped me focus more on the composition and overall feel of the piece, rather than the details and little niggling bits. Additionally, I’m painting in black and white first, then adding a separate color layer in PS. This helps me work on two difficult concepts separately without having to worry about messing one or the other up. Rather than make my own tutorial on this, I’ll just point out one I found that’s very helpful.
